National Junior Program 91 Youth Boy’s December Training Camp
The National Junior Program completed 2007 with its annual weeklong December Training Camp in Bendigo for the newly formed ’91 National Youth Boys squad following the completion of the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup.
The camp saw 74 identified athletes from across Australia training twice a day under the guidance of AVF Development Coach, Stephen Benson, and their respective coaches with the view to be selected to the National Youth Team to tour in 2008 with the highlight being the 7th Asian Youth Boy’s Volleyball Championship in Sri Lanka this October.
Also on hand were the coaching staff of the National Men’s Team, recently returned from the World Cup in Japan where the Australian Men’s Team finish a credible 8th at the in their first appearance, to demonstrate the current skill models and assist with the development in the next generation of potential Australian athletes.
From the camp, around 20 athletes were selected to form the “National Youth Squad” to which the program will draw upon for the two scheduled activities for 2008; Thailand tour in May/June and the 7th Asian Youth Boys Volleyball Championships with the Junior Trans Tasman Series as preparation.
