Default And now floor to the French Volleyball Federation

Paris, April 20, 2008. Mr. Gil Pellan, President of the French Volleyball Federation, was very pleased to welcome the CEV delegates in Paris for staging both the Executive Committee and the Board of Administration of the European Volleyball Confederation.

Mr. Pellan took the occasion to mention a few key facts and figures which deal with the current state as well as the future development of volleyball in France. The French Volleyball Federation relies on a quite a long history, having been founded 72 years ago. Volleyball is one of the major sports in France at the moment, which counts 1,800,000 people involved as well as 1,700 registered clubs.

Mr. Pellan also analyzed the main efforts which have been devoted by the local Federation in order to support the development of that discipline across the whole country, mainly thanks to 2 national trainings centers (namely located in Toulouse and Montpellier) and 17 more so-called pôles espoirs established at regional level.

As for the future, the French Volleyball Federation is aiming at 5 main goals:

- to increase the professionalism of its affiliated clubs, also by creating a Super League for the top teams;

- to work on and to benefit from the current appeal of beach volleyball competitions, especially by implementing 400 new training facilities within the next 5 years;

- to improve the involvement into volleyball among the youngest generations, thanks to the so-called baby volley, a program which was launched 2 years ago and will be proposed to the attention of the other National Federations affiliated to the CEV within the workshops organized during the CEV Congress to be staged in Madrid next September;

- to even increase the involvement of girls into volleyball, taking into account that 50% of the current practitioners are females;

- to further promote all the various ways volleyball is practiced (handivolley, leisure volleyball etc.).

Mr. Pellan concluded by expressing his wish to welcome all the CEV representatives as well as the qualified teams to the 2011 Senior Men’s European Championships, whose organization the French Volleyball Federation is currently bidding for.
