Bye Peter! Welcome Thorsten!
Luxembourg, April 23, 2008. The CEV reports that Mr. Peter Lange has unfortunately decided to quit in advance his office as a member of the CEV European Cups Commission by citing private reasons.
Mr. Lange (pictured left, along with CEV Vice-President Mrs. Riet Ooms), a former national player for the German Democratic Republic, has been playing for decades a key role as far as the worldwide promotion and development of volleyball are concerned. Mr. Lange was also active as an international referee and he officiated plenty of matches (489) both in and outside Europe from 1963 to 1973. While being active also as a sports journalist, Mr. Lange headed the CEV Sports Organizing Commission from 1973 to 1983 and at that time he was also a member of the European Cups Commission. From 1987 to 1991 he chaired that same commission as its President. Afterwards he worked as Competitions Director at the CEV headquarters in Luxembourg from 1992 till the end of 1999 when he retired and became again an irreplaceable member of the above mentioned European Cups Commission (ECC).
Following a decision made by the CEV Board of Administration and accepted by the German Volleyball Federation, Mr. Lange will be replaced in his charge within the ECC by Mr. Thorsten Endres, who is currently heading the German Volleyball National League (Bundesliga) and already served since 2006 as a CEV Supervisor.
The CEV would like to express its sincere gratitude to Mr. Lange for the extraordinary contribution he ensured to the promotion of volleyball across Europe for so many decades and for his great devotion to the European Volleyball Confederation itself. The CEV would also like to warmly welcome Mr. Endres and to wish him the very best of luck for this new professional challenge as well as for the role he is going to play in order to ensure a bright future to the European Cups!
