USA, El Salvador 1, Guatemala, and Puerto Rico in Women’s Semis
USA and El Salvador 1 became the first semi finalists of the women’s field in the 2008 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit at El Salvador. Both tandems won their two matches of Saturday advancing directly to the stage of the last four teams.
Americans (Erin Byrd-Stephanie Chapek) defeated Canada (Tammy Thomas-Kristina Long) 21-17, 21-15 and continued their success by downing Puerto Rico (Sheila Lopez-Maritere Ramos) 21-18, 21-19.
Backed by the local fans, El Salvador 1 (Laura Molina-Ivonne Soler) won against Costa Rica (Suzane Calderon-Tatiana Murillo) 21-12, 21-13 and then edged Guatemala (Maria Jose Orellana-Anna Ramirez) 21-15, 18-21, 15-12 in an emotional match.
The Guatemalans, who earlier had beaten St Lucia (Dania Hamilton-Samantha Manai) 21-8, 21-12, recovered to beat Canada in three sets (21-18, 15-21, 15-8) moving also to the semis.
Puerto Ricans Lopez-Ramos completed the semi finalists with a victory over the team of Costa Rica by score of 21-16, 21-14.
In Sunday’s semi finals, USA will meet Guatemala and El Salvador 1 will face Puerto Rico.
