St. Pölten, May 9, 2008. Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig needed ten games to win the season-opening Spanish Masters of the NESTEA European Championship Tour on Grand Canary three weeks ago. Their tournament had started with the Country Quota-Play-Off and ended with a two-set finals victory against Austria's Sara Montagnolli and Sabine Swoboda.
Now the caravan of the highest-ranking European Beach volleyball tournament series has arrived in St. Pölten for the Austrian Masters from 9-12 May. Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig are again part of the action and have won their first four matches. One match on Thursday for the Country Quota-Play-Off and three on Friday ensuring last year's European silver medalists a spot in the main draw.
In addition to the German duo Spain's Ester Alcon and Olga Matveeva, France's Celine Gemise-Fareau and Mathilde Giordano as well as Efthalia Koutroumanidou and Maria Tsiartsiani from Greece reached the main draw that is set to begin on Saturday at 9 a.m. 16 women's teams will be playing for 50,000 Euros in prize money and important qualification points. The women's defending champions are Vassiliki Karadassiou and Vassiliki Arvanity of Greece.
