PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC, May 9, 2008 - After failing to reach a SWATCH FIVB World Tour semi-final in their previous six starts, Germany’s Julius Brink and Christoph Dieckmann regained their “final four” form here Friday with a pair of wins in the US$175,000 Beach Volleyball event on Štvanice island.
Joining the 11th-seeded Germans in reaching Saturday’s semi-final in the third of 20 men’s stops on the SWATCH FIVB World Tour calendar were 13th-seeded Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal of the United States as Friday’s most successful teams defeated tandems from Brazil and the Netherlands, respectively.
Two rounds of four elimination matches will be played Saturday to determine the last two teams in the inaugural Prague 2008 Open semi-final that will set the lineup for Sunday afternoon’s medal matches where the final two Beach Volleyball tandems will compete for the $28,000 first-place prize while enhancing their qualifying bid for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
