Default Mexico's Garcia & Candelas lead Seoul Open Main Draw qualifiers

After advancing to only two of nine Main Draws from the qualifier on the 2007 SWATCH FIVB World Tour, and failing to earn a spot in the "money" rounds at the first international event this year in Adelaide, Australia, the 16th-seeded Garcia and Candelas have been successful in the last two attempts after upsetting the top-seeded Salgado sisters (Carolina and Maria Clara) 21-16, 25-27 and 15-6 Wednesday afternoon.

The Mexican pair has now posted an 8-3 match mark as Garcia and Candelas placed seventh in their last SWATCH start two weeks ago in Shanghai where they upset Jia Tian and Jie Wang, the top-ranked Chinese team on the FIVB circuit in the first round. The Shanghai was also Mexico's top women's finish on the SWATCH FIVB World Tour since September 2003.

Two pairs from the Netherlands along with teams from the Czech Republic, the Philippines and Spain bettered their seeds in securing one of the final eight spots in Thursday's opening "money" rounds. The only survivors from the top-ranked teams Wednesday were third-seeded Mika Teru Saiki and Chiaki Kusuhara and fourth-seeded Cristine "Saka" Santanna and Andrezza "Rtvelo" Martins of Georgia.
