After a two-season hiatus, the SWATCH FIVB World Tour has returned to Japan for a women's Beach Volleyball event as Country Quota matches for Brazil and the host country highlighted play here Tuesday at the historic Nakanoshima Park on an island between the Oojima and Tosabori Rivers in the financial district.
As is the case at most SWATCH FIVB World Tour events, the Brazilian Country Quota matches for a spot in the US$175,000 Keihan/SMFG Japan Open Qualification Tournament were the featured contests Tuesday as Shaylyn Bede and Agatha Bednarczuk advanced from the three-team playoff to Wednesday's competition to determine the last eight spots in the Main Draw.
Shaylyn, who captured the last Osaka stop in 2005 with Ana Paula Connelly, and Agatha won a pair of matches to advance to the Keihan/SMFG Japan Open Qualification Tournament qualifier. After defeating Leila Barros and Sandra Pires 23-25, 21-17 and 15-11 in 67 minutes, Shaylyn and Agatha posted a 22-20 and 21-17 win in 45 minutes over the Salgado sisters (Carolina and Maria Clara).
