Default Men's Volleyball Day 3 Review: The United States and Poland lead the pools

Quote:
Pool A

2008 World League champion the United States got its third straight victory against Bulgaria with a score of 27-29, 25-21, 25-14, 26-24 and became the only team to remain undefeated in the pool. The US is guaranteed to earn a berth in the quarterfinals, while Bulgaria, who has suffered the first loss, dropped to 2-1 and took the third place.

Italy secured their second win after beating Venezuela in straight sets and ranked second in the pool. The final score is 25-21, 25-20, 25-21. Venezuela suffered their third straight loss and will likely not advance to the quarterfinals.

Host China pleased the home crowd with their win over Japan in five sets 25-20, 25-23, 17-25, 16-25, 15-10 and improved their win-loss record to 2-1. Japan remained at the bottom of the pool with no wins so far.

Pool B

Poland led pool B after defeating Serbia in four sets on the third day of competition. The 31-29, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21 win, which was Poland's third consecutive victory in the tournament, ensured that Poland clinched a spot in the quarterfinals. With no wins so far, Serbia will likely not advance past the preliminary round.

World No. 2 Russia completed a 3-1 win over World No.1 Brazil, who has suffered the first loss and dropped to third place. The final score was 22-25, 26-24, 31-29, 25-19. Russia, the other country which maintained a perfect record in the pool, is now tied with Poland. But Poland is ahead based on a better points ratio.

Germany romped to a 29-27, 25-21, 25-21 victory over Egypt to improve its win-loss record to 1-2. With the first win in the tournament, Germany took the fourth place on the scoreboard, while Egypt, who has suffered three straight defeats, remained at the bottom of pool B.
