As the Tour returns to its birthplace, this year's four-day Manhattan Beach event has expanded the field to 64-team main draws, leaving 16 qualifying spots up for grabs. No other AVP event fields a main draw bigger than 32 teams or allows more than eight qualifying berths.
The AVP Crocs Slam Bud Light Manhattan Beach Open, the world’s most historic and prestigious beach volleyball event, kicked off Thursday with an open qualifier. Sixteen men’s teams and sixteen women’s teams broke into Friday’s 64-team Main Draw, which starts at 8 a.m. on the south side of the Manhattan Beach Pier. Reigning Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers went undefeated Saturday at the AVP Crocs Slam Bud Light Manhattan Beach Open to move into Sunday’s semifinals.
Dalhausser and Rogers, the second seed, moved through their third-round match in straight sets, then needed three to beat 7th-seeded Matt Fuerbringer and Casey Jennings, while Jennings’ wife Kerri Walsh and new son Joey watched for the first time together. Then, in the fifth round, Dalhausser/Rogers beat third-seeded Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal to make the semis.

This limited edition AVP Wilson official game ball commemorates the life and career of a beloved giant in the world of beach volleyball. Though his life was tragically cut short, Ol' Whitty packed a lifetime of achievement and joy into his 47 years. In his death, as in his life, Whitty has brought the beach volleyball community together. The ball will be unveiled at this weekend’s AVP Crocs Slam Bud Light Manhattan Beach Open, where it will be used in the Legends Game and the "6-Man" preview exhibition.

Kevin Wong, teammate fall in Manhattan Beach volleyball final
Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal defeated Matt Olson and Punahou alum Kevin Wong, 21-17, 23-21, today in men's final of beach volleyball's Manhattan Beach (Calif.) Open.
Beijing Olympians Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs won the AVP Manhattan Beach Open on Sunday for their first victory in the event as a team and sixth in the eight events they've played this year.
The top-seeded Branagh and Youngs beat third-seeded Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan 21-17, 21-14 to win the title. Branagh and Youngs didn't lose a game all weekend, and gave up 15.5 points per game through their seven matches.
