Default Walsh, May-Treanor tie career mark

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh have done it again and have extended their current streak to 84 match wins and 15 tournament titles. For the Boulder championship title, the pair went against the number two seeded Jenny Johnson Jordan and Annett Davis and beat them in two games.

In usual fashion, the duo seemed to easily float through the rounds leading up to the semifinals. In the semifinal match against Barbra Fontana and Dianne DeNecochea, they were forced to three games. Fontana and DeNecochea gave May-Treanor and Walsh a run for their money but the third game was won decisively by the Athens gold medalists.

By the time the finals were set to begin, the Boulder crowd had filled up the seating areas and were cheering loudly in anticipation of the match. They gave a roaring standing ovation, the NBC cameras began rolling and the event commenced.

Default Metzger, Williams take men's title

Mark Williams won his first AVP title today in Boulder, Colorado. Statistically, he had the best partner on tour to do it with as Stein Metzger and Boulder seem to go well together. Metzger has appeared in the finals of the two previous times the event has taken place in this city. In 2005, he took second and in 2006 he won it with Mike Lambert.

Today's match against Anthony Medel and Fred Souza was decided in two games and played out in front of a large, loud, local audience. A national audience also followed along because the game was broadcast live by NBC for the first time this season.

In game one, the teams seemed to play relatively evenly and the score remained close. Following a 15-10 timeout, Metzger and Williams were leading and seemed to have a greater amount of momentum. Williams had a few big blocks and a great kill that shanked off of Medel.

Default Top seeds advance in Boulder

The top women's beach volleyball team in the world continued its worldwide dominance Friday by advancing to the second round of the AVP Crocs Slam Boulder presented by Bud Light.

Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor, who have won their past fourteen tournaments in a row (both domestic and international) handily defeated the No. 32 seeds Kristen Batt and Megan Wallin 21-5, 21-7. They will take on No. 17 team Julie Romias / Lisa Rutledge in Round 2 on Saturday.

Those who grew up in the Centennial State found that hometown advantage doesn't always work out as planned. Fowler, Colo. native Brittany Hochevar and her partner Jennifer Fopma, the No. 16 seeds this weekend, lost their first round match to Romias / Rutledge, while Aspen native Catie Mintz and partner Leilani Kamahoahoa (26) fell to No. 7 seeds and sisters Katie and Tracy Lindquist in three games: 21-14, 15-21, 15-8. University of Colorado at Boulder graduate Allie Griffin and partner Angie Hall, ranked 30th this weekend, also lost in the first round to No. 3 seeds Carrie Dodd / Tatiana Minello 21-17, 21-14.

Default Top seeds return to US for tour play

Is it just a coincidence that on America's birthday the AVP Crocs Tour will be competing in the heart of the country?

Almost right in the center of the U.S., the AVP Crocs Slam Boulder Presented By Bud Light will kick off on Friday, July 4th.

No one is more excited for this location than Crocs Shoes, as Boulder is the birthplace of the company. The tournament will take place on Folsom Field, home of the University of Colorado Buffaloes.
