The world's No. 1 women's team and reigning gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerr
To hear Duncan Budinger tell it, he's the third-best volleyball player in his family.
His sister Brittanie holds numerous records at the University of San Francisco and played two years professionally in Europe. And his brother Chase was one of the best school-boy volleyball players to ever come out of the San Diego area. He spent time with both the 16- and 18-and-under United States indoor volleyball national teams.
But Chase Budinger doesn't play volleyball anymore aside from messing around with his friends on the beach when he's home from school. He's a star basketball player for the University of Arizona and almost left this past year, his sophomore season, for the NBA Draft.

all > News & Features Rogers, Dalhausser take Brooklyn, eighth title
The competition level on the AVP Tour might not be as high as it will be in the Olympics, but Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser are getting very accustomed to this winning feeling.
In defeating Nick Lucena and Sean Scott, 21-16, 21-12, on Saturday in the final of the AVP stop in Brooklyn, Rogers and Dalhausser earned their eighth AVP title in nine tries this season. The reigning world champions also won three of the six international FIVB tournaments they entered in 2008, leaving the Americans as gold medal favorites two weeks away from their first Olympics.

AVP veterans pull off two upsets
Barbra Fontana and Diane DeNecochea certainly know what their roles are on the sand.
"I'm the workhorse," DeNecochea said. "She's the strategist."
And lately that's been serving them just fine. The seventh-seeded duo upset No. 2 Jenny Johnson Jordan/Annet Davis and then beat No. 6 Tyra Turner/Rachel Wacholder, 23-21, 16-21, 15-13 on Saturday evening to earn a spot in the semifinals Saturday at the AVP Brooklyn Open in Coney Island.

May-Treanor, Walsh win again as Olympics near
Kerri Walsh started talking about playing head games with her beach volleyball opponents when teammate Misty May-Treanor interjected, "It's a secret.''
Walsh seemed unconcerned about revealing the duo's attempts to become more creative on defense.
"We got a lot of easy points today,'' she noted to May-Treanor, "and I think it was because we changed it up a little bit.''
It's hard to imagine the reigning Olympic champs needing to improve much the way they're rolling into the Beijing Games. The top-seeded pair beat No. 4 seed Jennifer Boss and April Ross 21-14, 21-15 on Sunday in the finals of the AVP Tour's stop at Coney Island in Brooklyn.
