No. 14 Loyola Drops 3-2 Decision at No. 8 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sophomore outside hitter Kris Berzins recorded 13 kills and 10 digs on the evening, but it was not enough as No. 14 Loyola dropped a 3-2 (26-30, 30-27, 16-30, 30-28, 13-15) decision to No. 8 Ohio State at St. John Arena on Saturday night. With the loss the Ramblers fall to 5-3 (3-1 MIVA) on the season, while the Buckeyes improve to 6-1 (5-0 MIVA).

Game one was a back-and-forth affair as the Ramblers and Buckeyes exchanged leads four times. Loyola held a 12-11 lead over Ohio State but the Ramblers could not hold on, as the Buckeyes took advantage of an Ian Anderson service error to even the score at 12. Ohio State took the lead for good on a pair of service aces from Kevin Heine. The Ramblers continued to battle, but were unable to regain the lead as they eventually dropped game one 30-26.

Default No. 7 Stanford Comes Back to Edge Ball State

No. 7 Stanford men's volleyball fell into an 0-2 hole on Saturday night in Burnham Pavilion, but instead of folding to the large task ahead, they responded and got back on the winning track with a 3-2 (28-30, 25-30, 30-22, 31-29, 15-11) victory over Ball State. Sophomore Evan Romero led the Cardinal with a career-high 34 kills and also recorded nine digs in his superb effort. Sophomore Miki Groppi got the start at setter and tallied 69 assists in the victory.

The Cardinal opened in game one and looked to be in the same lull that plagued them during the Pacific match on Thursday. The first game went back and forth, with numerous ties and lead changes, with no team taking the lead until late. The team out hit the Cardinals .233 to .188, but still couldn't pull out the game in the end and fell 30-28. The score was tied at 28 apiece, but a kill from Patrick Durbin, a Ball State outside attacker, tallied one of his 25 digs and sealed the game for the Cardinals.
