Default Montenegro continues successful run in Guba

The second competition day of the 1st Round Tournament for the 2010 FIVB Men’s World Championship opened with an impressive performance of Montenegro that defeated in three sets Albania. Montenegro was and still is the real favorite to clinch the spot available for the next round of the competition.
Actually Albania started that match quite well, leading 8:6 at the first technical time-out; however, Montenegro bounced back quite quickly and sailed to 16-10 at the second technical break. Aleksandar Milivojevic, who plays in France along with Beauvais Oise, impressed with his skills and was the clear leader of his team all the match through. Montenegro closed the first set at 25-17. In the second set the score stayed leveled up to 5-5, then Montenegro sped up with the imposing blocks spectators already admired during yesterday’s match against Moldova. In the third set Albania realized that they really did not have any chance to resist to the bombing coming from the Montenegrin side of the court and nr. 12 Klodian Kasa was even forced to leave the field because of an injury. Montenegro finished the job quite quickly for the final 3-0 and has lost no sets so far in the tournament.

In today’s second match host Azerbaijan played Moldova, with both teams looking for their first victory in the tournament. Moldova benefited of some strong blocks to sail away first at 8-6 and then up to 16-9 at the second technical time-out, with nr. 12 Vladimir Stelmah excelling in attack. The set ended rapidly at 25-14 for Moldova. In the second set it was Azerbaijan to take the lead first (13-8) with Dmitriy Obodnikov contributing in moving up the score to 16-10 and Parviz Samedov serving very well. At the end of the set both teams made a series of errors, with Azerbaijan closing it out at 25-22. In the third set the score stayed balanced up to 6-6. Stelmah sped up the operations for Moldova (16-13) with mighty blocks whereas Azerbaijan suffered in reception and even in digging, with the set finally over at 25-16 for Moldova. In the fourth set Bahram Rozmetov entered the court for Azerbaijan and the hosts re-turned to the effective play they had showed in the second set, sailing to a rapid 25-17. The tie-break was very tough, with none of the teams ready to give up but it was Moldova that finished the job at 18-16 for the final 3-2.
