Moldova close to 2nd Round of 2010 FIVB Women’s World Championship
Moldova made a big step towards the qualification for the 2nd Round of the 2010 FIVB Women’s World Championships yesterday night in Tallinn as they defeated host Estonia 3-2 in a thrilling match at the 1st Round tournament that opened this past Friday in the Baltic Republic.
The final outcome of the game was decided in fourth set as Estonia was totally destroyed 9-25. “Every player made his best in order not to win this set," Estonia’s libero Kadri Puri said. The best scorer of the match was Moldovan captain Tatiana Liulenova with 29 points, whereas Maarja Kerner scored 19 points for Estonia.
“In the fourth set our reception was very bad and my team lost confidence because of that,“ the local head coach Peeter Vahtra noticed. “Moldova's block was effective and our spikers were tired. The service played a very important in this game. During the last two sets we weren't able to push our rhythm and gave a constant advantage to our opponents. I'm sad because we had a 2-1 lead, but we have to give credit to the team from Moldova. It was a beautiful and competitive game.“
The head coach of Moldova Mikhail Copilov added: “This game proved once again my theory that women's volleyball is like pendulum which is regularly moving from one side to another in determining the final result of a game.“
In the other game scheduled for Saturday Georgia defeated Denmark 3-1 It was first the win ever for the Georgian national team in a World Championship match.
The winner of this Pool will move to the next round to join the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria and Albania next May as the World Championship will resume for the second round.
