Third Norceca Continental Beach Volleyball Circuit
Athletes very enthusiastic about the start of Norceca Circuit
The pairs participating in the first stop of the Third Norceca Continental Beach Volleyball Circuit arrived in this warm caribbean island with plenty enthusiasm for the event that kicks off next Friday.
During the afternoon and evening hours the representatives of United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Guatemala, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Cuba were arriving.

Beach Volleyball action ready to start in Cayman Islands
The action of the first stage of the Third Norceca Continental Beach Volleyball Circuit starts on Friday at 9:00 a.m. (local time) with the top ranked teams in both genders on the sands of Seven Miles Beach.

ubans González-Peña were three-for-three on Friday
The team Cuba’s men of Sergio Gonzalez and Karell Peña won its three matches in Pool C during the opening day of the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament, the first stop of the Norceca Circuit.
Puerto Ricans Orlando Irizarry-Roberto González took first place in Pool A by winning two matches as also did Canadians Ahren Cadieux-Richard Van Huizen in Pool B.
Gonzalez-Peña defeated Sean Allstot-Kevin Lynch of USA-2 21-15, 21-13, then beat Cayman Islanders Shervin Rankin-Olney Thompson 21-11, 21-12 and finished with a 21-7, 21-11 victory over Jorge Bolaños-Erick Garrido of Guatemala.
Irizarry-Gonzalez battled hard to defeat Yewddys Perez-German Recio of Dominican Republic 21-10, 19-21, 30-28 and then defeated Jamaicans Danny Wilson-Mark Lewis 21-17, 21-16.
Cadieux-Van Huizen first won 21-10, 21-16 against Christian Francois-Kevin Rivers of Trinidad & Tobago and then beat Jason Wight-Michael Bruning of USA-2 by score of 21-13, 21-10.
The teams representing Jamaica, USA-1, Cayman Islands, USA-2 and Dominican Republic, also advanced to the next round.

Americans had perfect day at the beach
The American women’s team of Kristen Batt and Megan Wallin was perfect in three outings during their participation of the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament.
Batt-Wallin won Pool C of the competition first defeating the Cayman Islands’ pair of Wanda Brenton-Jennifer Bily 21-15, 21-11, then rolling over Jamaicans Cherine Richards-Cheryl Daley 21-4, 21-6, and capping their performance with a 21-11, 21-14 victory over Costa Ricans Betsy Cruz-Marcela Mora.

Mexico, Cuba, USA-1 and Guatemala move to women’s semis
The women’s teams of Mexico, Cuba, USA-1 and Guatemala advanced to the semi finals of the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament, the first leg of the 2009 Norceca Circuit.
The Sunday’s semi finals feature Mexico vs. USA-1 and Cuba vs. Guatemala.
Mexicans Vanessa Virgen-Polet Cruz and Cubans Nirian Silial-Kirenia Ballar made it through the winners’ bracket winning their two matches on Saturday.
Virgen-Cruz defeated Americans Jennifer Sharp-Jennifer Lombardi of USA-2 by score of 21-16, 21-18 and then beat Maria Orellana-Anna Ramirez of Guatemala 21-15, 21-13. Silial-Ballar won over Costa Ricans Betsy Cruz-Marcela Mora 21-8, 21-13 and then edged Kristen Batt-Mega Wallin of USA-1 by score of 16-21, 21-7, 15-9.
Batt-Wallin, winners by 21-13, 21-9 against Nancy Joseph-Elki Phillip of Trinidad & Tobago, entered the semi finals through the losers’ bracket by defeating Wanda Brenton-Jennifer Bily of Cayman Islands, 21-11, 21-6. Orellana-Ramirez, who defeated the Cayman Islanders in the morning session by score of 16-21, 21-8, 15-9, advanced to the semi finals with a victory over the Costa Ricans Cruz-Mora 21-17, 21-13.

USA-1, Cuba, Canada and Puerto Rico in men’s semi finals
Men’ teams of USA-1, Cuba, Canada and Puerto Rico are the semi finalists of the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament, the inaugural event of the 2009 Norceca Circuit.
On Sunday, USA-1 plays against Canada while Cuba meets Puerto Rico.
Americans Jason Wight-Michael Bruning and Cubans Sergio Gonzalez-Karell Peña won their two contests on Saturday, while Puerto Ricans Orlando Irizarry-Roberto Rodriguez and Canadians Ahren Cadieux-Richard Van Huizen advanced via the losers’ bracket.
Wight-Bruning beat Shervin Rankin-Olney Thompson of Cayman Islands, 21-13, 21-13, and Puerto Ricans Irizarry-Rodriguez 17-21, 22-20, 15-13. Gonzalez-Peña edged Dany Wilson-Mark Lewis of Jamaica, 22-20, 19-21, 15-11 and prevailed against Canadians Cadieux-Van Huizen 21-15, 20-22, 15-10.
Early Saturday, Irizarry-Rodriguez defeated Dominicans Yewddys Perez-German Recio 21-17, 21-11 and gained the semis by defeating Jamaicans Wilson-Lewis 21-10, 21-13. Cadieux-Van Huizen had won 21-16, 21-15, over USA-2 of Sean Allstot-Kevin Lynch and then defeated Dominicans Perez-Recio 21-11, 21-17.
