NORCECA and CSV compete in first Women’s International Summer Tournament
Junior teams from Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico will join the sides of Chile and hosts Peru in the first Women’s International Summer Tournament to be played at Miguel Grau Coliseum of Lima, Peru from February 25-27.
The Peruvian National Federation, presided by Juan Castro, announced the match-schedule on Wednesday which features a NORCECA duel between Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic in the opening contest followed by the hosts entertaining Chile.
The Dominican team includes libero Brenda Castillo, the MVP of last year’s FIVB Women’s Junior World Championship and middle-blocker Candida Arias who was part of the starting squad that won the silver medal in the event.
Hosts Peru will be represented by a squad of players U-23 years, in preparation for the South American Games to be held in Medellin, Colombia, from March 19-30 and the 2010 FIVB Women’s World Championship in Japan.
“That’s our team for the future,” Castro explained. “Our hopes to qualify to the 2012 London Olympic Games rely on this group of young players.”
The teams to participate in the South American Games are: Peru, Venezuela, Chile and Argentina in Pool A and Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay in Pool B.
