Deportivo Wanka/Callao claim 14th Peruvian League title
Deportivo Wanka/Callao claimed their 14th Peruvian Men’s League title on Sunday beating rival team Huaquillay in two out of the three matches scheduled for the final 3-1 (32-30, 18-25, 25-13, 25-23) and 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 15-8.)
Having lost to Huaquillay on the opening day of the competition, revenge was definitely on the mind of the eventual champions.
The team, which includes Peruvian national players Luis Soto and libero Jonathan Vega, helped lead the side in both attack and defence, and ultimately helped make the difference between the two clubs.
“We have worked for this goal from the opening game right up until this match" said Veronica Castor, Team Manager of the championship team. Carlos Lopez, Sport Manager added: "We are also glad to retain 90% of the players for the next season, and we have already started to look for reinforcements for the 2010/11 season.”
