USA holds tryouts for women's national team
USA women’s Volleyball will take a significant step in its preparation for the FIVB World Grand Prix in August by holding its largest-ever single tryout from February 19-21 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado.
The Open Tryout has 45 middle blockers, 41 outside hitters, 38 liberos, 31 setters and 20 opposites for a total of 175 athletes jostling for a place on the team, which will also have an FIVB Women's World Championship assignment in Japan from October 29-November 14.
Hugh McCutcheon, the U.S. women’s coach, will lead the evaluation process for the tryout.
Additionally, assistant coach Karch Kiraly, the only player to win gold medals in both Volleyball and Beach Volleyball at the Olympic Games (Volleyball at the 1984 Los Angeles Games and 1988 Seoul Games and Beach Volleyball at the 1996 Atlanta Games) and technical coordinator and assistant coach Jamie Morrison, who won gold with the men's team as McCutcheon's assisant at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, will also take part in the player evaluations.
