Default Tassie Devils Scorched by the AIS in Opening Match of the NVC

The Tassie's opening match of the Challenge was against a mixed bag of AIS players that gelled well to take a 3-0 victory. Every point won by the Tassie's was celebrated long and loud: the blocks and the aces especially. Captain Ross Williams received the AIS rocket serves well, creating options for some great attacks. The match was a one-sided affair, over in less than an hour with the AIS stretching out and showing the Van Diemens their quality wall of defence.

UTS/SU brought their Sydney spirit to today's match. The voice and passion was present in a solid match full of power. Bart Vonhoff and Chris Todd performed solidly, with Oziris Rossa Jr making an impact. The Canberra Heat and UTS/SU combination produced plenty of fire with both teams pushing the envelope on their vibrancy, backed by some good volleyball. UTS/SU clinched the victory at the death 3-1 26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 24-24.

Southern Cross Fairhills entered the fray against Volleyball WA. The first set was an awesome display of offence and attack, by both teams. The first set stretched to 31-29 and showed glimpses of greatness by both teams. Tom Bawden was the go to in front and back court with amazing hang time that defied gravity time and again. Marek Gralinski pounded the 3m line to the whoops and hollers of his teammates. Where Paul Prindiville matched the hits from front and back leading the West Australians, ably assisted by Libero Matt Lanham who left nothing to chance.

University Blues took on the Queensland Pirates. A strong start from the Queenslanders was impressive, but a change of lineup in the 2nd set saw a younger six facing some awesome hitting by Alistair Lyne put them on their heels. Captain Anthony Wardrop lead the Pirates with great attacking shots and using the experience of the sand to play smart and work some great air time for kills. The Pirates stretched the five sets to the time limit and claim the first points of the weekend winning 3-2: 26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 24-24.
