Costa Rica defeated Trinidad & Tobago
Costa Rica survived a scary first set and went on to defeat Trinidad & Tobago in straight sets 25-21, 25-15, 25-21 in the first match of Pool A on Monday.

Venezuela blanked Cuba
Venezuela took advantage of the mistakes of its opponent and dominated Cuba 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-22) in the first match of Pool B in the Pan American Cup. The loss left Cuba out of the 2009 FIVB World Grand Prix for the first time in the history of the event.

Brazil is the only unbeaten team
Brazil is still unbeaten in Pool B of the Women’s Pan American Cup with one match to play in the preliminary round. The Brazilians defeated Peru 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-22) on Monday.

USA crushed Trinidad & Tobago
USA finished the preliminary round in rPool A of the Pan American Cup with a 4-1 record and a points-ratio of 1.287 by defeating Trinidad & Tobago in straight sets 25-11, 25-11, 25-14 on Tuesday.

Argentina beat Costa Rica in straight sets
Argentina defeated Costa Rica in straight sets but ended short off first place in Pool A of the Women’s Pan American Cup. The score was 25-15, 25-7, 25-15.

Brazil finished unbeaten in Pool B
Brazil beat Cuba in straight sets (25-20, 25-11, 25-16) and completed its participation in the preliminary round of the Women’s Pan American Cup with a perfect record in Pool B. The Brazilians advanced directly to the semi final round and qualified to the 2009 World Grand Prix.

De la Cruz sent Dominican Republic to the 2009 World Grand Prix
Bethania de la Cruz came from the bench and led the Dominican Republic to a spectacular victory over Mexico in straight sets by score of 25-19, 25-15, 25-7 and conclude atop of Pool A in the Women’s Pan American Cup.

Puerto Rico swept Venezuela
Puerto Rico downed Venezuela in straight sets 25-17, 25-21, 25-12 advancing to the quarterfinals round of the Women’s Pan American Cup. The rival of Puerto Rico on Thursday is still to be determined.

Canada used blocking to beat Peru
Canada used its best weapon to claim a 3-0 victory over Peru securing a second place in Pool B of the Women’s Pan American Cup. The score was 25-20, 25-12, 25-18.
