Default Tips on setting

I have lots, this is what i play.

number one is make best friends with your outside hitter and find out where he likes the ball (on or off the net, close or far).

feed your middle or he'll get lazy and your whole attack will suck

play good defense, don't run up too fast from the back row

if you have a strong hitter playing back row, feed him. Set it on the 5 foot line, hopefully he has hops and gets there.

and if you already played some time with your team and know where they like the ball you can try some special hits that are signaled with the setters hands before receiving the opponents service.
as some examples:
- short ball to middle player behind the setter
- famous double (consists of setting the ball above the middle player. his fake jump gives the opposite player who came running to the middle a completly free net)
- pipe (set the ball for the attacker through position 6, has to be played rather fast to avoid the middle blocker)
- short ball to position 4 (very useful if not overused...set the ball between 3 and 4, and ur outside hitter runs straight for it so he got no blocker in his way)

I knew one setter who said:"I set like I think I should, so get use to it." Ok, I know that setter can't fulfill everyones wishes, cause then he would be thinking more how to send a ball to attacker, than what combination to organise. But a little help is always welcomed, and with little effort everything can be done like it should be.

What do you think about this?

I've been a setter for seven years now. I think that the most important thing you can do is own the court. Set every pass, even if it's easier for someone else to set (bad pass). This gives the hitters confidence, knowing that you've got the setting covered, you have confidence in making tough sets, you're the guy or gal.
I'd say next is being technically proficient. Know your sets. You can always improve your hands. I think that what holds a lot of setters back is their rough technique. Try and set as many balls a day as you can.
three- love your volleyball

Set the hitter, not just the ball.
