Default TCA Houston Volleyball prepares for successful season

TCA Houston Volleyball will be hosting tryouts for the upcoming 2009-2010 season July 25-26 at the Kingwood Athletic Club. This summer TCA will be offering an incoming third- and fourth-grade league and an incoming fifth- and sixth-grade league on Tuesday and Thursdays starting June 9.

TCA will also be offering an incoming seventh-grade Drill Session and League Play on Wednesday evenings starting June 10 for those girls wanting to try out for their middle school teams.

TCA Houston opened its doors at the Kingwood Athletic Club last November and started with nine teams in its inaugural year. The 14s and 17s team started the season by both qualifying for the Tour of Texas in January. Each team had to qualify by being one of the top 24 teams out of more than 100 teams in each age group.

TCA Houston 17 Black came out and finished in the top eight of the Gold division of the tour. The team also won the local Cross Court Tournament at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston and also finished first at the Rajun Cajun in Louisiana. TCA Houston 17s just finished their season with a sixth-place finish at regionals out of 32 teams. TCA Houston 14s finished ninth out of 56 teams.

All of TCA Houston’s teams had an amazing season and can’t wait to come back next season. Each girl learned to play volleyball more aggressively, jump serve and learned how to become an athlete on and off the court.

Sara Shannon, director of TCA Houston Volleyball, said the organization helps kids work on their fundamentals.

“It’s very competitive in this area and girls need to know the fundamentals of volleyball before they can step out on a volleyball court and play,” Shannon said. “TCA will teach these girls the basics so they will be ready to try out for their middle school teams. The older girls will be ready to play an aggressive style of volleyball at their high schools after playing for TCA.”

TCA has helped send more than 150 girls to college to play for Division I, II and III schools. TCA now has more than 1,000 girls in the program around the country in 10 cities, and right now more TCA leagues are being implemented throughout the United States.
