Is it legal to intentionally hold your arms parallel to the net, almost touching, so that a low shot into the net by the other team bounces off of you through the net and denies the chance to recover?

I think it's not ilegal, but I'm not sure. 95% legal, 5% unsure.

New rules for net violation for seasons 09-12:

Net violations will only be called if and when the player or players only touch the top quaduant of the net, This is where its gonna get very tricky. Only those playing the ball, only those touching the top part of the net will be in violation.. everything else is fair game. ie... attempt to block, blockers hand touches the bottom of the net on his way up (NO call) he wasnt playing the ball yet...

I read rules, and I'm not sure what paragraph said that the net violatione should sanctionised only if player touches the net, and not net touches the player. So, if the ball hits the net, and as a result of that action, net touches player, that's legal.

i don't think it is illegal.
I'm not so sure, but as far as i know, it's not..

It is illegal to intentionally put your hands up when a ball would otherwise be bounced back from the net. I used to play with a couple Brazilian girls who would try that at the net and would get called on it... It's not a new rule. It's unethical volleyball and if a ref sees you, they will call you.

Some are trying to use the new net rule to their advantage (without getting caught) but carefully pulling the net down on a low set to help the hitter. That is obviously illegal, but some try to get away with what they can. Ethical or not.
