FIVB: Roseto degli Abruzzi 2008 Men's Open May 13-18
Roseto degli Abruzzi stages an "open" men's SWATCH-FIVB World Tour event for the third-straight season. Reigning Olympic champions Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos have placed second in the first two Roseto degli Abruzzi stops after losing the inaugural event to Switzerland's Patrick Heuscher and Stefan Kobel 14-21, 21-17 and 15-12. In the 80-minute 2007 finale, Marcio Araujo and Fabio Magalhaes defeated Emanuel and Ricardo 23-21, 16-21 and 15-12. Brazilian teams have captured seven of the previous 13 SWATCH stops in Italy. Dio Lequaglie and Giovanni Errichiello posted the best finish for an Italian team in the 13 events with a silver medal in 1989 at Jesi. It is one of two silver medal finishes for Italians on the SWATCH tour. Roseto degli Abruzzi also hosted a 2005 FIVB Challenger event where the Brazilian brothers Ferreira (Jan and Para) captured the final.
